August 13 is International Left-Handers Day: Celebrating Our Unique Differences

Did you know that left-handed people make up about 10% of the world’s population?

That’s right! And some of the most famous people in history were left-handed too. For example, Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and Benjamin Franklin were all left-handed intellectuals.

As for celebrating International Left-Handers Day on August 13th, here are some ideas:

  • Wear a t-shirt that shows you’re left-handed or make a post on social media using the hashtag #LeftHandersDay.
  • Congratulate your left-handed friends or family with a big hug.
  • Play an instrument with your opposite hand.
  • Get your right-handed friends or family to use their left hands to do things like making coffee or drawing a straight line on a piece of paper.

Here are some quotes about left-handed people:

  • “I may be left-handed, but I am always right.” - Anonymous
  • “If the left half of the brain controls the right half of the body then only left-handed people are in the right mind.” - W.C. Fields
  • “Lefties are in great demand but limited supply!” - Anonymous
  • “Life without left-handed people wouldn’t be right.” - C.R. Manske

Fun facts about Albert Einstein

  1) Einstein didn't like wearing socks. Apparently, no matter how smart you are, socks will inevitably get holes in them. For this reason (seriously), Einstein never wore socks. He even boasted to his friends that, while a student at Oxford, he got away with not wearing socks . I disagree with Einstein, socks are cool as long as they have a cool design.
