Al-Fresco Dining for National Eat Outside Day

If you love eating outside as much as we do, you’re going to love this! August 31 is EAT OUTSIDE DAY – a global initiative that encourages us all to leave the indoors behind and eat al-fresco whenever possible. It was the French people who made al-fresco dining an option for the masses when, following the French Revolution in 1789, the former Royal Parks were opened to the public. The summer of 1789 was a difficult time in France, and the people suffered from high taxes and poor harvests. On July 14, angry citizens stormed the Bastille prison and other landmarks to protest living conditions. The French Revolution followed these events, which inspired Thomas Jefferson to host a similar picnic for legislators at his home in 18th century Virginia to demonstrate the French ideals of equality and freedom. Taking your meals outside is great for your mental health. Eating outdoors also helps you reconnect with nature and brings back the simple pleasures in life. Check out the following links
